On the bench

R3 is the radius most layouts should use where they can. At four hundred and nineteen point six millimetres it gives longer stock room to track properly and takes the strain out of a six axle locomotive, while still fitting a sensible tabletop. Twelve sections close a circle, and R3 nests concentrically outside an R2 circle for a double track loop.

How it behaves in a build

Rust free rail provides the stable current delivery that matters most on curves, where a locomotive's pickup geometry is least favourable, and the sleeper detail matches the rest of the system so a mixed radius layout looks consistent. If you are deciding between R2 and R3 for a main line and the space exists, take R3 — the running improvement is immediately visible.

More ASTEM technic parts: gears, axles and compatible building block sets

If this is part of a bigger build, the collection has the pieces around it. Fit is the whole point: a technic gear, a cross axle and a friction pin from an ASTEM building set are compatible with LEGO® technic parts down to the tenth of a millimetre. Builders are blunt about what binds and what slips, and that customer experience is the only review that moves a production run.
