Wheels and joints: where the model meets the ground (3 packs)

Rolling stock for models: moulded wheels plus steel ball and socket joints for steering linkages.

What sits in this drawer

Steering is the part of a technic chassis that most often disappoints. The rack moves, the arm moves, and somewhere between the two a plastic ball joint flexes just enough to make the wheels wander. Swapping that one component for a steel ball changes the feel of the whole car.

We keep this drawer short on purpose: wheels in the 15038 and 23798 patterns, and 18 mm steel balls with large-receptacle sockets that replace the moulded 99948 and 92911 parts. The steel ball is harder, rounder and far less forgiving of slop, which is exactly what a steering linkage wants.

Questions about this drawer

What do the steel balls replace?

The moulded ball ends used in standard steering and suspension links. The socket size is unchanged, so they drop straight in.

Will a steel ball wear the socket?

Less than you would expect. The ball is smoother than a moulded one, so it polishes the cup rather than chewing it.

Do the wheels take standard tyres?

They use the rim patterns those part numbers describe, so tyres made for them fit as usual.

One drawer over

The rest of the ASTEM collection is a click away, drawer by drawer. A technic gear is only useful if it fits, so every axle, pin and building set here is held to the LEGO® compatible dimensions the system has used for decades. When builders describe the experience of a pack — clean, tight, or fiddly — that customer note goes straight onto the bench.
