What sits in this drawer

A model that moves is a different object from a model that sits still. The moment an axle turns under its own power, every sloppy joint and every tight bearing in the frame announces itself, which is why we think a motor belongs in a build earlier than most people put one there.

We put the drives here: M, L and XL power function motors, small engine kits, and pull-back units for builds that should not need a battery at all. They are made to the mounting footprint the technic system uses, so a motor bolts into an existing frame on standard pin holes rather than on a bracket you have to invent.

Questions about this drawer

Which motor should I use for a car?

An L motor for a medium chassis, an XL when the model is heavy or geared for torque. An M motor is better suited to a steering arm or a working accessory.

Do these work with existing battery boxes?

Yes, the connectors follow the power function pattern, so they plug into the control boxes and extension leads you already run.

What is a pull-back motor for?

Small vehicles with no wiring at all. You push the model backwards to wind the spring, let go, and it runs.
