On the bench

Switchers are the workhorses of a layout and the 0-4-0 is the smallest honest one: four driven wheels, no leading or trailing truck, short enough to work a tight yard throat. That short wheelbase is also its weakness on dirty track, because there are only four points of electrical contact. Copper wheels address that directly, giving a cleaner pickup than plated steel and fewer stalls over turnout frogs.

How it behaves in a build

The model carries the usual metal content for weight, which on a switcher matters more than anywhere else — a light shunter slips rather than pulls. Painted lettering and exterior detail follow the same standard as the rest of the range, and couplers come fitted. Twelve volt operation suits a smaller controller, which is convenient if this is the second locomotive on a shelf layout rather than the main line engine.
