On the bench

This is the same compact four coupled switcher as its copper wheeled sibling, specified with metal wheels instead. On clean, well maintained track the difference is small and the saving is real, which makes this the sensible choice for a layout that gets regular use and regular cleaning. The short wheelbase works the tightest yard curves and the engine looks at home anywhere a big locomotive would not fit.

How it behaves in a build

Metal construction gives it the mass a switcher needs; a light shunter spins its wheels and achieves nothing. Twelve volt drive, painted lettering, detailed exterior and fitted couplers follow the range standard. If your track work includes a lot of turnouts and you clean rarely, consider the copper wheeled version instead — otherwise this one does the same job.
