On the bench

Grass tufts are the fastest scenery improvement available. A bare track bed with a dozen tufts along the ballast shoulder instantly looks like somewhere real; the same track with a perfectly uniform grass mat looks like a model. The two tone split here is what makes it work — a vibrant green reads as spring growth and the dry shade reads as late summer, and mixing them avoids the flat look of a single colour.

How it behaves in a build

Each tuft is laser trimmed from polyester fibre to a consistent eight millimetre height, which is roughly knee high at this scale and right for trackside weeds, field edges and the corners of a yard that nobody mows. Application is a dab of white glue or superglue and a pair of tweezers. Two hundred and eight pieces covers a surprising amount of layout, and they work on any scenic base.

Fit and compatibility

Eight millimetre height suits HO and similar scales; the tufts bond to plaster, foam, ballast or printed scenic sheet with ordinary adhesive.
