On the bench

A vehicle is a harder build than it looks. You need a rigid frame that still allows a suspension to move, a steering geometry that does not bind at lock, a drive path from motor to wheel that survives being picked up by the roof, and enough panel work that the thing reads as a car rather than a skeleton. This pack is weighted toward that problem, with a wide spread of beams and connectors rather than a pile of one part.

How it behaves in a build

We reach for it when starting a MOC from a sketch rather than a plan, because the breadth means you rarely have to stop and redesign around a missing part. Builders have described it as the set that saves the collecting time — the long slow process of buying individual parts to fill a gap is exactly what a wide assortment short circuits.     can't buy just technic parts in real LEGO

    We couldn't find just technic parts in real LEGO, so we got these. These work great. They snap together right. They are compatible with LEGO. There are a couple pieces that are mismolded... they don't seem to work properly, but for the price, we can deal with a few of those.
