Black tanks carry the products that stain, and the finish reads that way immediately — this is a wagon that has had a working life. At forty feet it matches the standard mid century tank and couples into a mixed freight without looking out of era. Painted lettering provides the identity, applied cleanly enough to survive close inspection.

How it behaves in a build

As with every tank car, weight is the thing that matters most, because the shape puts mass high and a light tank car is the first thing to leave the rails on a curve. Metal construction handles that. Couplers are fitted for building a block train. Two or three identical black tanks in a row is one of the easiest ways to make a short layout look like it has real traffic.
