On the bench

Tank cars break up a freight consist visually, and the silver finish does it more than most. Against a line of brown boxcars and grey gondolas, a polished tank catches the light and draws the eye along the train, which is a composition trick as much as a modelling one. The forty foot length is the common mid century size and sits comfortably on tighter curves.

How it behaves in a build

The body carries painted lettering and exterior detail to the same standard as the rest of the shelf, and metal components provide the weight that keeps a cylindrical, high centre of gravity car on the rails. Couplers are fitted. Pair it with the black tank for a two car block and the train immediately looks like it is serving a real refinery rather than wandering about.
