Chemical service tanks carry different markings and fittings from oil tanks, and getting one onto the layout is the small detail that makes an industrial scene convincing. Routed to a plant spur with two or three others, it gives a switcher a real job: pull the empties, spot the loads, get out of the way of the through freight.

How it behaves in a build

Forty feet is the standard length for the type and sits well on normal curves. Metal components provide the weight that a tall, narrow tank car needs to stay planted, and the painted lettering is applied cleanly enough to read at a glance. Couplers are fitted. If you only buy one tank car, make it this one — it tells a more specific story than a generic oil tank.
